Spiritual Healing

What is Spiritual Healing?....... It is a natural, safe and powerful method of healing that uses the Universal Energy that is all around us. It works at all levels, mind, body and spirit.

Spiritual Healing compliments conventional medicine by channelling life energy to the patient in order to help them recover from illness, injury or distress. Spiritual healing is now beginning to be recognised in the west but in the east has been acknowledged for thousands of years. 'Chi' and 'Prana' are two of the better known names for these energies. The simplest way to describe it is as the 'Universal life force'.

What is it's purpose? ....... Now that may seem a strange question. How would you answer it?

There is no ultimate point in healing the body or the mind unless it touches the spiritual awareness and development and lifts that individual into a higher plane of being.

An extract from the words of Silver Birch on The Healing Mission :

"If you heal a body and do not touch the soul, then from our viewpoint the healing is a failure. If you touch the soul, you help to fan the divine spark. You help to achieve a closer unity between the individual and the great sublime supreme power that endowed that person with life."

If you think about you will realise that this is true and there will be many examples that you can think of out your own knowledge. The alcoholics that go into rehab and get dried out only to regress once they get out into the big wide world again. The young man who becomes psychotic due to effects of cannabis and is sectioned into a psychiatric unit. He gets over the withdrawal and is given anti-psychotic medication and becomes stable again. He gets released and after a while because he feels he is ok he stops taking the medication, has another joint ("Well - I'm on top of it, there's nothing wrong with me"), has another and before long has gone psychotic again. The round continues. A psychiatric nurse told me recently that they expect the average round to be about 6 to 8 months before they see the same faces in the ward again.

This may be healing their physical bodies and even their minds for a while but it has not touched their soul.

In the physical Healing work that I do I am guided to the places within the aura that need it. I am aware that my spirit guides are doing the guiding and all I have to do is go with it without resistance. They know what and where the problem is and guide me to channel the energy in the right place. I once found myself on the floor at an Alternative Health Weekend Fair spending a considerable amount of time stuck on a man's ankle. I wondered, "What am I doing down here?" Every time I tried to pull away I was drawn back like I was on an elastic band. Eventually the pulling stopped and I was released. The man told me afterwards that about 2 years ago he had snapped his Achilles tendon on that leg. This is how spiritual guidance works if we go with it. Ok that man may have benefited physically from that healing but unless it touched his soul and made him more spiritually aware of his ultimate purpose here on earth then there was no ultimate point. Being a healer, whoever you are, carries with it that responsibility.

Spiritual healing is a natural energy that flows through the healer to the subject being healed. The subject does not have to believe in it for it to work and - although some believe it comes from God - no religious faith is required. This spiritual energy can help speed up the natural healing process of the body and improves recovery time.

Anyone can do it but if you try and then find that you are getting unusually tired then you are using your energy and not allowing the Universal Energy to flow through you. This is a common mistake and is caused by the ego getting in the way - I (with a big I) want to be a healer (because it'll make me feel good and I can show off to my pals).

Just as with Spirituality are there are no rules or creeds to Spiritual Healing. If it works for you and makes sense to you then take it on board - if it doesn't then reject it. The moment rules, laws and creeds come in then whatever it is turns into a man-made Religion.

Silver Birch says in   'Creation is infinite'

"There is no spirit, however exalted, in my world who would desire you to accept his teachings without consideration, without pondering and without reflection,” he replied. “We do not desire automatons who will mechanically perform all that is said. Our mission is to increase your own sense of responsibility, to stimulate the divine that is within you, to enable you to have even greater command over your reasoning faculties. God speaks to you through your mind. Whilst it is true that the kingdom of heaven is within, the mind is also God’s kingdom - or should be.”

“Never do anything which your reason rejects. Enthrone reason as your guide."

I had a brief encounter with a popular healing organisation in the U.K. (probably the most well known) and they told me that if I didn't carry out the healing process in strict accordance with their methodology then I couldn't join (their club). So I didn't and it has made no difference at all, the Spiritual Healing continued just same and only improved as I got better at letting my ego go.

How did you start? is one of those FAQs that come my way.

A lady came to see me for hypnotherapy for weight control. She used to be athletic and very fit but had a sports injury to an ankle which meant that no longer could she get all that exercise and the pounds began to pile on. The arrangement in the consulting room meant that her feet were almost next to me when she was horizontal in the recliner. A Spiritual Medium had told me just prior to that I was a natural born spiritual healer and so I had the notion to hover a hand over her ankle (just to see - test it out) whilst I gently droned on about the weight control. The client was not aware of what I was doing as she had her eyes firmly shut. All I felt was a gentle heat generating. That's interesting, I thought.

After the hypnotherapy session had ended and the lady was wide again she said, "What did you do to my ankle?"
"Oh, I just tried a bit of healing on it, is that ok?" I said apologetically.
"You didn't manipulate it or touch it?"
"No, just hovered over it like this," I said demonstrating.
"Well it felt like it was being manipulated. All the bones shifted and creaked and snapped back into place. How did you do that? My sport's physio has been working on that ankle for months and just couldn't get it to go back right. How did you do it? What did you you?"
"I don't know, just held my hand over it and thought about the healing energy from the universe."
"My ankle is amazing - look I can walk on it again with full weight - properly. You'd better find out what that was."

And so my exploration into Spiritual healing and Spirituality began and it is a continual learning process - it never stops.

What's the history behind Healing?

Despite the recent increase in popularity, healing in one form or another has been around for many thousands of years. Hands-on healing can be traced back to the ancient Egyptian and Babylonian civilisations where Priests used it as part of the service available in temples of worship in Egypt, Greece and the Orient. By 1000BC the Egyptian, Imhotep became so famous as a healer that on his death he was deified as the Egyptian God of healing.  The symbolism of snakes that appears in the temples of Imhotep reoccur in the Greek Caduceus, a symbol of healing showing snakes entwined around a staff, that is still used to the present day.

Healing and Religion
Since humankind has walked the earth, there has always been some belief in a higher power or supreme energy from which we ourselves have originated. The Native American Shamans called this 'The Great Spirit' or 'The 'Great Mystery' and the Kahunas from Polynesia acknowledged their own higher self, through which they believed they had access to this Source. Many religions call this supreme force 'God' and religions such as Judaism attributed their healing gifts to direct input from this source. Jesus is one of the most well known healers of all time, and irrespective of different views as to who and what he was, the recorded healings represent three years of extraordinary and far-reaching influence.
During the Middle Ages and Renaissance, treatment of the sick was largely in the hands of the physician and Priests were only allowed to offer spiritual guidance rather than spiritual healing.

Religion and a New Perspective on Healing Disease: Christian Science
Following a chronic illness Mary Baker Eddy came to the conclusion that the basis of all disease was psychosomatic and later wrote 'Science and Health' stating that disease was an illusion and could be eradicated by the mind.  In 1879 Mary Baker Eddy established the first Christian Science Church.

Healing in the East
Forty three years later in Japan, Mikao Usui completed his shûgyô training (the 21-day meditation on kurama yama) and discovered a vast omnipotent spiritual energy that can be channelled for healing. Usui named his healing technique Usui Reiki Ryôhô Gakkai

A Spiritual Approach to Healing
By the 1950s there was a renewed interest in 'psychosomatic' illnesses that attracted the attention of the clergy, some of whom were beginning to campaign for a revival of their own healing mission.  The Churches' Council of Healing was set up with a Commission to investigate the subject. One of those investigated by the Commission was Harry Edwards.
At this time Spiritual Healing was being explored through Spiritualism, being more easily accepted if it was being practiced under a religion in Church.   After attending a Spiritualist meeting, Harry Edwards found he could help assist people through giving healing when orthodox medicine and drugs were unable to help.  In 1954 Harry Edwards created a national healing organisation, the NFSH (National Federation of Spiritual Healers).  The NFSH was initially born out of an attempt to create a strong body to state the need for healing and the need to support conventional treatment- despite scepticism from the British Medical Association and the Churches' Council.

Modern Science and Healing
During the past few decades, science has advanced to such a level that it has begun to prove that there may be such a thing as 'life-force'.  Frontier scientists all over the globe have produced extraordinary evidence to show that a vast energy field - termed The Zero Point Field - connects everything in the universe, and we ourselves are part of this vast dynamic web of energy exchange.

In this model of the Universe, the Zero Point Field (ZPF) is the Source of all creation. The ZPF fills the cosmos, including what appears to the naked human eye as the vacuum between planets and stars. The ZPF permeates all space, and all animate and inanimate objects therein, connecting them to one another.

This Universal field of energy of various wavelengths, in its movement, as it generates gravitational and electromagnetic forces and fields, forms whirlpools of energy vast and small, creating galaxies, solar systems, stars, planets and even the life forms evolving on the planets thus created.

According to this new science, we are all beings of light, localized fields of crystallized Universal Life Force Energy, interconnected with all that exists by virtue of being contained within the larger Universal Field.
Scientists exploring this new model of the Universe find their vision converging with the ancient wisdom of mystical traditions found throughout the world.

Many scientific studies have been undertaken to determine whether healing is a successful practice and what the source of healing really is. Research has often produced conclusive results that healing is much more than a placebo effect.

"What the Bleep Do We Know?" -- the Movie

"Please see the movie, "What the Bleep Do We Know?" To say it is fantastic would be an understatement. You may want to see it twice. The sum of what comes from near-death experiences, death-bed visions, spiritual transformations, and from the depths of the new sciences and what has been discovered about the universe, is embraced in this film - and in a manner you can grasp. This one film illuminates the entire territory. I found myself smiling throughout, pleased that at last someone had made a movie from "Future Memory." Parts of the movie are even word-for-word from my book. No, I don't think they copied anything. I doubt that anyone connected with the film had ever heard of me, but truth is truth, no matter from whence it comes or by whom. Do see it. It is more than wonderful". PMH Atwater

There are many clips from this film on YouTube including this one below on the "double slit experiment":

A final statement in this clip this is that the very act of measuring (or observing) changed the nature of the thing observed from a wave of infinite possibilities into one reality.

It is my premise that this is the nature of "creating our own reality". What we think is what we get. The thought produces, from infinite possibilities, one reality. It is well understood that a positive outlook on life usually produces positive results and negativity the opposite.

It is however the quality of the thought that is very important. Often people think things in an idle way without putting much focus into it or perhaps don't understand themselves very well as to their underlying prejudices. It is in my experience, through decades of being a  counsellor and hypnotherapist, that people do not know themselves very well; which is why they then do not get the results they expect or always want.

From a religious perspective this may be the nature of Prayer.
